Learn a basic stitch of needlehook or tambour embroidery in a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian building the home of Animali Domestici Showroom.
You will spend an afternoon mastering a technique traditionally associated with French couture surrounded by some of the best vintage and contemporary Italian design.
There is only one stitch to master in tambour embroidery. Instead of a needle, very fine, sharp hook is
punched through a tightly stretched fabric to catch a fine thread from beneath
and draw it up, creating a linked, chain-like stitch.
You will learn how to work the hook through the fabric without catching following a pattern and how to start and stop. Once you finish stitching your design you will then be shown how to finish the back of a hoop neatly making it ready for display.
We will discuss: brief history of tambour stitching, what are the best materials to use, different ways of transferring a pattern onto the fabric, different ways of finishing the back of a hoop making it ready for display or as a gift.
All tools and materials are provided.
The price also includes a needle hook you will be able to take home to practice.
Please note: The venue is on a second floor with no lift.
